Sophie has a total of 72 marbles. She gives half of them to her friend Emma. Then, Sophie buys 18 more marbles. After that, she decides to split all her marbles equally into 9 jars.

If Sophie gives half of them to Emma, then she would have half, or 36, left. Then, she buys 18 more marbles, leaving her with 36 + 18 = 54 marbles. If she splits them into 9 jars, then in each jar there would be 54/9 = 6 marbles per jar
