Answer: 24cm2
ReplyDeleteWe can use algebra to solve this:
The width of the rectangle is "x" cm and the length is "x+2" cm,
perimeter = a + a + b + b, in our case we have "x" and "x+2" instead of "a" and "b",
so
x + x + (x + 2) + (x + 2) = 20cm
4x + 4 = 20cm
4x = 16cm
x = 4cm
so the shorter side (i.e. the width) is 4cm, and the length is 6cm (2cm longer)
AREA = a x b
4 x 6 = 24 centimetres squared
The answer is 24 centimetres squared.
