Work out the number of chocolates each student receives.
First you have to do 36 * 4 = 144 because that is how many chocolates he has. Then you do 144/27 to find out the number of chocolates each student receives. This gives you an answer of 5 1/3
ReplyDeleteHow do you give a child a 1/3 of a chocolate? I put 55 as my answer is this counted as a correct answer?
DeleteI meant 5 not 55 sorry.
DeleteThis would be wrong as you should not round it since you can get 1/3 of a chocolate. If you round it to just 5, you are missing out some of the chocolates. In this case, all of the children each miss 1/3 of a chocolate so in total, 1/3 of 27 is 9, meaning that you only use 144 - 9 = 135 of the chocolates out of a 144 total chocolates.
